Les Kouba's Legacy Wildlife Prints

Les C. Kouba's deep understanding of wildlife stemmed from his lifelong experience studying wildlife in its natural habitat. This makes him one of the world's foremost painters of wildlife. His authentic and believable images are based on this firsthand knowledge. A unique part of many Leslie Kouba's prints is his use of thirteen elements such as thirteen pheasants in an image. Collectors have come to know this about his works and enjoy the search for them as Kouba may have camouflaged them into the background. We have these prints available:

Can you find the 13 elements on each of the prints?

Mr. Kouba's works have appeared on national magazine covers and have received many awards and official recognition. He was twice named winner of the Federal Duck Stamp competition and was honored in "Men of Achievement" and "Who's Who in Art." In 1976 he was elected Docks Unlimited Artist of the Year and in 1980 was the recipient of the "King Charles International Award" recognizing achievement in art. When he died in 1998, Les. Kouba left a legacy--a large body of beautiful wildlife art to be appreciated by generations to come.  If you're interested in more information on Kouba, try AskArt.com.
We have loved Les Kouba's wildlife art for years. He actually began the wildlife art trend before Terry Redlin. He came from Hutchinson, Minnesota, but lived out his years in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He is also know for his Americana prints.
Prints are limited editions, signed and remarqued. Prints are frame in a hardwood complemented by a color coordinated double mat, glass, backing, and hanger to finish the framing package.

"I did this painting as a fundraiser for the conservation group, Pheasants Forever, a real neat outfit. The image sold out almost instantly because everyone who saw it was reminded of the now famous Shelter Series. Although it was completely different, it touched a nerve in those dudes and they had to have it.
I've found that the popularity of pheasants seems to grow and grow. I think it's because the bird is so beautiful. When you see a pheasant in the sunlight, the colors appear almost iridescent. The painting also stirs memories of the days long gone when the pheasants were so common and plentiful. Everyone hopes the day will come when we can turn back the pages of time and restore the populations as they once were. This is the goal of Pheasants Forever." Les Kouba

"Big Bills was inspired by a trip to Jimmy Robinson's Duck Camp on the Great Delta Marsh in Manitoba, Canada. When I visited Jimmy's, I always took my camera and plenty of film along. The hunting is so superb that by 8 o'clock in the morning you've shot your limit. I like to stay on the marsh for another hour or so and photograph the ducks and geese as they decoy in.
My long suit is bluebills and I love to watch them as they glide in almost like a maple leaf--a kind of zig-sagging dance. As they glide in, there's a moment of no return. It happens right before the bills settle in. It's this moment that I wanted to catch for the hunter, this paining says it all." Les Kouba.

"This was inspired by a photograph I took years ago of the sky over a lake just west of Minneapolis. I took it with my Bolsey--an inexpensive, but good 35mm camera. I saw the sun trying to break through the clouds---the rays were incredible. It really turned me on.
Once I saw the photograph I knew I had to paint it, but I was lacking a situation of some kind. As a wildlife artist, I decided to use the sky of a duck painting. I had several good pictures of friends and relatives putting out decoys, so I combined the two and relatives putting out decoys, so I combined the two ideas to create a composition that worked.
The camera is such a help--a tool for the artist. Face it, you can't take your ease out in all that muck and expect to paint.
When customers see this painting, they always comment on the sky. For many, it's inspirational--all most religious." Les Kouba
