Charles Peterson's Memories Collection of
watercolor prints have been growing in popularity for many years now. Peterson says his,
"memories paintings come directly from what I've experienced and observed
since childhood. I suppose you could say they're reflections of my life ... and of the
personalities I've known along the way." Here are some of his earlier Memory
watercolors:

"Diamond in the Rough" by Charles L. Peterson Image Size: 19" x 26" 2,600 s/n prints Collectors Ed. $220 print $405 framed print S&I included email order form |
August 1st, 2001 - "'Diamond in the Rough' is based on the view from my childhood home, though I've shifted the neighbor's houses around to fit my compositional needs. I have a 1927 photo taken of my mother wheeling me in a wicker buggy in front of that field which remained an empty lot long enough for me to learn the rudiments of baseball there. Typically, we had nothing like enough players for two teams, so we came in from left field whenever the older boys decided it was our turn at bat. Disputes over rule-breaking were endless, often citing examples set by Mel Ott or Lou Gherig or Phil Caveratta, and were finally settled by those same older boys who had established the batting order. Gloves were shared, bats were commonly taped (as much for fractures as for grip), balls were jumpen wrecks, and it was all glorious." - Charles L. Peterson |

There was a strong urge to get out and start pulling weeds (I blame you for that), but I had to be content with the image of you and me and Molly there on one of those beautiful spring days. Thank you for all the flowers, Mom. I love you." Charles Peterson |

"Harvest Lunch" by Charles L. Peterson Image Size: 17½" x 31" 2,800 s/n prints Collectors Ed. $250 print $470 framed print S&I included email order form |
August 1st, 2000 - "I've done enough harvesting to appreciate both the heat of the labor and the delight of a rest in the shade. As a laboring youth I enjoyed the variety of age groups and the differing perspectives each brought to the day. So, in Harvest Lunch I've shown the young man gazing off into space, his thoughts far away from the reality of their work. Father discusses with his wife the daily concerns of running the farm, which they operate as a team. The lunch she brought is distributed by their little girl, who happily maintains contacts with Grandpa. He is at an age when he can leave decisions to his son and simply enjoy the day, the familiar labor, and the satisfaction of being with family. I have been in the shoes of each of these men and hope I bring some of that experience to the painting." Charles Peterson |

2000 - "In 1949 Charles Peterson began his college education at Marietta College, Marietta, Ohio. Some twenty four years later he retired as one of the college's most endeared professors. The desire to pursue his art full time separated 'Chick' from his alma mater, but it did not end his close relationship with it. In June of 1998, Charles Peterson was honored as the inaugural inductee into the Marietta College 'Alumni Faculty Hall Of Fame'. With this special place having played such an important part in Charles Peterson's life, he was moved to create a painting to aid in a major capital campaign for Marietta. 'Time-Honored Marietta' celebrates a proud heritage, featuring real personalities from the past who have played significant roles in the life of the college." |
